The all-new Michelin Defender tire has hit the North American market, just in time for spring driving season. It offers a 145,000 kilometre warranty, increased safety and greater levels of fuel-efficiency than the previous generation.

“The Defender is the best standard passenger car tire we at Michelin have ever made, delivering tremendous quality and value to our consumers,” said Pete Selleck, chairman and president, Michelin North America. “We listened to the marketplace and realized that North American tire buyers are looking for a safe, fuel-efficient tire, with long tread life and excellent value for the money. The Defender tire satisfies these primary consumer needs and enhances the already strong offering of products in the Michelin portfolio.”

I am a firm believer in the fact that you can never know too much about your car tires. After all, you are relying on them.

As a classic article on kbb.com states, most car manufacturers have built a tire pressure monitoring system into their cars. Many of us though still don’t know what this is all about. How can it help you? What does it ultimately do?

This is a great site that explains in detail about TPM.

This is an older post, but still one of my favorites. Many of us complain about what technology has done to our lives. It’s made it impersonal, or taken automation to the extreme.

Of course, when we apply that to our cars, most of us have even more complaints. There’s too many buttons, gadgets, or settings.

Today, I would like you to take a moment and appreciate what technology has done for you. Those cars make it possible for you to get to work, to support yourself or your family. It’s also given us these achievements:

  • ABS: Anti-Lock Braking System
  • TC: Traction Control
  • ESC: Electronic Stability Control

Go check out the rest of the article, and let us know what you think in the comments below.

Car hacked? Sep 7

We’ve all heard of someone or have been hacked ourselves. In a day and age where technology is as ubiquitous as sunshine, it’s just something we all plan for. We update our computers and make sure our virus protection software is up-to-date.

Now what if you had to do that for your car? Think we’re joking? Think again. This classic article from Ars Technica gives us food for thought, after a car was hacked through its car tire sensors.

Here’s an excerpt, but read the full article for yourself.

The tire pressure monitors built into modern cars have been shown to be insecure by researchers from Rutgers University and the University of South Carolina. The wireless sensors, compulsory in new automobiles in the US since 2008, can be used to track vehicles or feed bad data to the electronic control units (ECU), causing them to malfunction.
